Once she got to sleep, she slept the sleep of the dead. But, before hand, there was *nothing* that would calm her.
Em went to bed at 9:30pm and that was pretty much it. She got up twice during the night. Not bad, given all the noise and “excitement” that was going on while she slept.
I tried to get Abby to bed with Em, but it didn’t work. She was too snuffly to relax. I had given them both a vapobath and rubbed babyrub on Abby’s chest.
So, instead of wasting time, I put Abby in the swing and brought her into Joseph’s room where we are doing end of 2004 clean-out. She was happily swinging and when I finally saw the rubbing eyes, I tried to put her down again. It was then 10:30pm.
Didn’t work. Tried to get her to sleep half-way sitting up because she’s all snotty. Nope. Tried her swing in the room. Nope. She’d scream and cry.
So, I took her downstairs, sprayed nasal spray in her nostrils and suctioned her out (which makes her even madder) and tried again. Nope.
I gave up and gave her to Ron so I could keep helping Joseph. By now, it’s 11:30 or so. She screamed and cried for Ron, then finally fell asleep. He passed her to me to take upstairs and guess what? Awake!
So, I tried again, but she woke up Em, so I gave her back to Ron, got Em asleep, got Abby again and tried again. Nope.
Gave her back to Ron, finished Joseph’s room and got him to bed. Got Abby back from Ron… she’d fallen asleep on his shoulder, upright. She woke up.
We tried, bottles, nursing, a dark environment, a light one. She would just hold those eyes wide open. I finally gave her to Ron and told him I had to go to bed, because I was the one up with her last night too.
10 minutes later, I went back downstairs, because I thought of something. Zantac. The girls hadn’t had it in several days. Neither has really shown a true need for it, but we do have it on hand… for “emergencies”. Gave her a dose and took her upstairs and she zonked out cold. It was 2:00 am.
Em woke up this morning at 9:30 and Abby is still sleeping. No sniffles though, which is a good thing!!
So, was she finally worn out, or did the Zantac really do the trick? Ugh!
