I was up pretty much up all night with Abby. After their shots yesterday, the nurse said these might make them a little extra sleepy. Well, it didn’t kick in until around 7pm and then both girls started getting tired.
Abby fell asleep around 7:30 and we put her in the swing thinking she’d wake up in 1/2 an hour like usual. She swung until 10:30pm! Now, normally, this would be fine, but when she woke up, she was warm to the touch.
Again, a side effect of shots is often a slight fever. By 11:30pm though it had morphed into full-out snottiness. Ewww! You could see that she was hurting from nasal/sinus pressure and her eyes were even watering. So, I ran out at 11:50pm to Lowes to see if they had any Babyrub, I’d just read about it — infants version of Vick’s Vaporub. Of course, they didn’t, so I settled for saline nasal spray and a vapobath liquid. We had Infants Tylenol Cold on hand too and loaded her up with that.
Poor baby couldn’t breathe through her nose, but we did notice that she’s now using her mouth for the same function! Woohoo! This is something that, for whatever reason, babies don’t do until they get a little older.
By 12:30am, I had Abby in her swing and when I asked Ron to see if she still felt warm, she woke up. So, I tried laying her upright in our bed, reputting her in the swing, laying her on her side, and nothing worked. She just sniffled and sniffled.
At 5am, I got up and she was too warm, so I took her temp… 102.6! Ahhh! Loaded her up with another dose of Tylenol and put her in a cool bath with the Vapobath. I kept her jammies off (left her in her diaper) and put her in her swing and she stayed there, sleeping soundly until nearly 8am!
That’s when I awoke to Abby sounds “Baaaaaa, ba ba ba baaaa” Heb heb, ba ba ba baaaaaaaa” “Ha ba ba” “Ma ba ba” I think you get the picture.
So far, no more temp, but one nasty runny nose… generally clear, but sometimes green (Ugh!). Other than what is obviously sinus pressure and a cold, she is just fine.
Em, on the other hand, slept through almost all of this! She woke up when I left for the grocery store and again once around 4am. Then, not until 9:30 am! Wow! She has no signs of this cold, but I’m sure it’s on its way and I’ll have another sleepless night waiting for me!
