Another fussy go-to-bed period for the girls. Not as bad as last night, but odd just the same.
This time though, I tried a different tactic. Instead of getting them up, I laid both girls next to each other in our bed and tried to get Em to nurse herself to sleep.
I guess she was full, because she wanted nothing to do with it. Abby, on the other hand, who was on the other side of Emily, was gett mad, so I switch. I nursed Abby and get Emily behind my back.
Em kept trying to roll to her side — these girls are side sleepers but couldn’t, probably because I was creating too much of a hill for her to roll against.
So, I used my elbow to push her over and she got onto her belly. Within a minute, she was out. Since Abby was still nursing, I kept my hand on Em’s back (babies aren’t supposed to sleep on their bellies for SIDS reasons) to make sure she was breathing then put them both in their crib — on their backs, but they both immediately rolled to their sides.
Of course, guess who woke up in time for midnight? 🙂
No matter what I do, Dorian always ends up on his belly. We were waking up and flipping him over but it just ended up a big mess with him screaming and us trying hard to get him back to sleep. As soon as we’d leave the room Dorian would be back on his belly sleeping.
We asked the pediatrician and she said even though there is still a risk, it is usually the worst from 0-3 months. After that, babies generally don’t suffocate on their blankets (I still worry about that every night because he has a light one he sleeps with). There are other possible reasons SIDS kills babies but non are really conclusive. I guess what I’m trying to say is we HOPE it doesn’t happen because Dorian turns no matter what and we can’t stay up all night watching him. Know what I mean?
