Tracking a smell …

can be a disgusting chore … unless you find nothing as was our case.

My house may not be clean all the time, but it doesn’t usually stink to high heaven. I mean STINK. Like cat pee or rotting something-or-other. Ewwwwwwwwwww! Needless to say, our evening became the scavenger hunt of a life time. Noses stuck into pillows, corners, carpet. Every item moved somewhere and “verified” for cleanliness.

And nothing.

Bathroom scrubbed to a shine, floors mopped and vacuumed.

And still nothing.

Ron cooked which added a nice garlic and butter smell, which combined with the stench and the Scrubbing Bubbles and Lysol helped mask it.

And still nothing.

But then, we noticed the stink was gone (or rather I did). After all that searching, sniffing, and finding nothing, it was gone. Could it have been the bathroom? The floor? Sure! But I didn’t believe that was the case. It had been concentrated to an area in the family room, though absolutely NOTHING was there … and the carpet didn’t smell (I tested it, much to my dismay).

So now, literally … nothing. Ah, good, right?

9:30pm, get the girls into bed. THEIR ROOM wreaked! Ick!

Off to smell-land again. Kept coming back to one spot. One spot, where the smell was the greatest — 5 feet 6 inches in the air (that’s how tall I am if you don’t get the reference). 😉

Skooch down, lower, lower, lower and finally take one whiff of their …

SHOES!

Oh My Goodness.

Ick.

Ick.

Ick.

The shoes now have a new home … on the porch. All four pairs of them.

Hindsight should be 20/20 … those were the shoes they wore while jumping in rain puddles at the park earlier in the week.

Lesson learned? Oh yeah. Leave rain-soaked shoes outside or wash first.
