5th Grade Recognition Ceremony

Ron, the girls and I attended Joseph’s 5th grade recognition ceremony this morning. It was actually a very well put together event. It only included his track, so just two of the 6 fifth grade classes that attend TCE. That was a BIG bonus. 🙂

The first “awards” given out were for perfect attendance.

Joseph got one! Woohoo!

The second set of “awards” were called Gold and Silver. The Gold went to students who showed consist high marks throughout their elementary years. You know … the super smart kids. 🙂

The Silver awards were given to kids who showed “tremendous growth and achievement or who’d overcome some adversity.”

Joseph got a Silver award!

I was TOTALLY shocked. He really has come a LONG way though. He’s reading above grade level and everything else (except spelling and writing) are at grade level. We thank the TCE staff for that. Of course, Jan Hagrove (the principal) says it was a team effort, but from my perspective, WE did very little… TCE did it all.

Makes us REALLY want to have the girls at TCE instead of OCE when they start … unless of course the school system makes yet another change in another year. 🙂

The final part of the ceremony was a slideshow of baby photos, next to 5th grade yearbook photos. Very very sweet. Some kids you could “see” in their baby photos and others, not so much. It was a surprise to see them “all grown up”.

It really was a nice event, capped off by cookies in the media center and Chick-fil-A for lunch. Oh and Joseph got to get out early … for the rest of the day. 🙂
