I’ve always believed it. We tried it with joseph and it was useless. And now I see it’s useless with the girls too.
The girls were “picking up” their huge mess and then decided to scatter it everywhere (everywhere!). I threatened time out, then, without thinking, threatened a spanking. Emi proceeded to throw the toys … again … while looking right at me. So, I picked her up, popped her on the butt and sat her in time out. She cried, Abby cringed and both were fine in 30 seconds.
2 minutes later, Abby pulls the SAME THING. Don’t they learn? 😉 So, I say “do you want a spanking like Emi?” to which Abby says ‘yes!’. Being a smart alec has gotten Joseph in considerable trouble, so in trying to curb that, I obliged. She didn’t even cry.
The next day, Ron tells me that he hears the girls talking about their “experience” and Emi’s response to Abby is
“That was fun!”
