Joseph has been complaining about a tooth for a couple weeks. In actuality, it’s an adult canine, coming in over a baby canine. And the baby tooth wasn’t moving. With 3 of 5 loose teeth already gone, this one wasn’t budging. I was waiting for it to either 1) become a problem or 2) for the baby tooth to move before calling the Dentist.
But, alas, it was not to be… that darned baby tooth wasn’t having it…. it wanted to stay put.
So this morning, I took Joseph to the dentist, expecting to have a 10 minute appointment followed with a “why don’t you make an appointment to extract the tooth.”
What we got was much different!
We walked in (as normal) and the dental assistant called us back. Before even walking back, she asked to see the tooth, took one look, looked at me and said, “So, shall we pull it?” I was a bit shocked because I really didn’t think they’d built in time to pull it today … though I had in my schedule.
I agreed and then she asked Joseph who was ALL FOR IT! I guess this tooth has been bugging him enough that he was READY!
They did an x-ray to see just how far the roots were … pretty much all the way … as normal. That tooth REALLY wasn’t budging! After that, it was to the room to get prepared.
Joseph was literally FINE the whole time. They did nitrous oxide on him … per his request and my ok … to calm him … but in reality it turned him into a storytelling machine. 😉 Apparently my purse is really cute, I have 20 pairs of shoes, Joseph only has 1 pair of shoes and Heely’s, school is boring, but he likes recess and lunch, yada, yada, yada. 😀
They numbed the area, then did the shot. He did great through BOTH. I was SO surprised! Then in came Dr. Brooks. He checked the tooth, pulled out the pliers, “wiggled” the tooth with the pliers and plucked it right out!
The tooth went into a treasure chest … made just for pulled teeth. And Joseph was done. Dr. Brooks said it came out cleanly and simply (I was there and watched, but couldn’t have told you that) and Joseph was ready to go.
Of course he was numb at school for a few hours, but oh so happy that the tooth was removed!
