I took Emily to the Dr. yesterday for a recheck on her plagiocephaly. Looks like our work is paying off! The Dr. said that Em’s head definately isn’t getting any worse and she sees a slight improvement. That’s exactly what Ron and I said, too!
She also said that the torticollis (tight muscles on her right side) are also softer and feel pretty much the same as her left. So, the turning to the left exercises and general growth have all contributed to success in working out those muscles too!
All is not done though. It’s still important that we continue with the turning to the left to improve her head shape further and keep it from reverting.
Also, while I was there, I asked about RSV shots. These are monthly shots given to children at risk of catching RSV during the winter months (November through March). We were “approved” for it in the NICU and reapproved by the Docs yesterday.
There are certain criteria that have to be met (especially to get insurance to pay as these shots are expensive! Thousands of dollars, actually!) For us, we meet: born between 32 and 35 weeks AND of multiple birth AND have a sibling in school or daycare at a minimum.
It’ll take about a month to get it all processed and then come November, they start getting the shots. There are NO side-effects, except to keep RSV at bay. And, it’s only for this year. This is NOT a disease you want to mess with — especially with preemies. Joseph did not get anything like this, but he didn’t need it.
Now for those weights… since I took both girls, I had them unofficially weighed (which means with their clothes and diaper on). We’ll have an official weigh-in October 15th at their 4 mo. checkup.
So, Emily weighed 10 lbs 9 oz(!), a gain of 2 lbs 7oz! And Abby was 11 lbs 0 oz, a gain of 2 lbs 10oz — since their last official weigh-in on August 6th. That was just over a month ago! These are awesome weight gains. By the time they reach 4 months, they will both definately be in the teens for weight!
Woohoo!
