Could be a virus. Could be something else. Right now, the cause is unkown. But, for myself and for documentation purposes, I’m going to outline what’s been going on with my baby girl.
Friday 2am : Emi woke up, throwing up just about everything … apparently this repeated a couple times in the night. Afterward, Emi crashed and slept for a while. No fever though.
Friday 1pm : Emi ate lunch and proceeded to throw everything up again. Nothing before lunch and she’s literally just finished her lunch. Ron noted that he thinks she had some bad milk, because Joseph had found some *old* milks in the family room. No fever though and no other symptoms. She’d eat, throw up and then crash asleep.
Fast forward as everything went relatively “smoothly” for a bit. Saturday breakfast and lunch were uneventful. Emi ate her fill. We figured it was food poisoning since she seemed to be over it.
Saturday 7pm : After one bite of a chicken nugget, she threw up. Luckily Aunt Catherine isn’t freaked out by stuff like this. 😉 Afterward, she was hungry again… immediately hungry, but Catherine held her off.
She was fine all day Sunday, eating breakfast in the van, having lunch (grilled cheese and melon) and dinner (I don’t remember what) and Monday-day — breakfast and lunch again.
Monday 5-8:30pm : Em was acting “funny” to me. She was laughing and smiling and playing, but was dragging while doing it. She just looked beat to me. I figured it was because she was tired … it was getting late, but I’d noticed it from the time I got home from work. She crashed on a pillow in the family room while we ate dinner. No dinner for her. She didn’t want it.
Monday 9pm (ish) : Em woke up and I sensed what was coming. It’s in her cry that I can “tell.” One cough and I all but ran to the bathroom with her where she proceeded to scream and cry and throw up a LOT. It freaked me out. The strange lag between bouts. Still, no fever. No obvious stomach ache, just a sense of being drained and then out it all comes.
We ended up calling our Pediatrician at 10:30pm at night and talking with her. She did say there is a virus going around and she’s seen it hit kids 2-3 days after everyone thinks it’s all done, but it could be something else. She offered to let me come in in the morning or ride it out a couple of days. I chose to go in.
Tuesday 5:30am : Em woke up after being asleep all night and downed 16oz of Gatorade. She woke up and specifically asked for it, so I filled it for her.
Tuesday 10:30am : I took Emi to the Dr. Dr. Ramsdell didn’t feel anything in her belly, but noted pale skin and a “dreary” look about her. Emi was great during the exam, but the lack of fever, lack of ANY other symptom has us worried. Dr. Ramsdell suggested an ultra-sound of her belly to rule out a blockage at her pyloris (wouldn’t that figure?). Unfortunately, u/s won’t pick that up, so it’s a CT or nothing. But that means Emi would have to be put under and be at a hospital. So we are giving it to Thursday to see if anything changes and will make a decision then.
Tuesday 5-7pm : Em is NOT herself. We went on a bunny walk and she was there, but not “there”. I know Emi and she just relaxed during the walk instead of pointing out every leaf, bird, caterpillar, etc. to me. Abby was “normal” doing all those things, but usually they tag-team. She’s now complaining her stomach hurts and she’s rolling around on the floor. She’s not whining, not complaining, just rolling around as if she has one massive headache or can’t get comfy at all. She did eat some strawberries a bit of banana, a few sips of milk and some more Gatorade, but not a lot. She just looks completely wiped out. She hit the potty one time, but just pee’d and told me, in no uncertain terms, that she did NOT have the yuckies. (That’s my Emi). 😉
Dr. Ramsdell said that if it got worse, we’d go ahead and make arrangements at Duke for the CT and some blood work. Emi either needs to perk up from this or my credit card is going to take a MASSIVE hit. If this continues tomorrow, I’m not waiting to Thursday. No way, no how. Something is just not right and I *really* hope some sleep tonight will do it. I’m praying and begging that that be it.
No one else, by the way, in the entire family, has ANY of these symptoms. It’s all Emi … 100% Emi. 🙁
