because everytime he does, stuff goes majorly WRONG! He left for Mexico and our alarm went on the fritz and a tree fell and covered the driveway (at our old house). He leaves to go fly an airplane and the “good” twin has a major meltdown and the toaster oven catches on fire. Sheesh!!!
So tonight, as planned, Ron headed out to go fly, fly away. No big deal. Girls were napping, I was working, Joseph was playing. Then, all the sudden, Abby starts screaming and crying, so I run up to find her sitting in a puddle of pee! She’d apparently gotten off her bed, stripped her diaper and sat down, then peed and wouldn’t get up out of it! Emi is standing there with a big grin on her face. 🙂 So, I get the both cleaned up and Abby is still just mad and crying.
We go downstairs and they see the doughnut bag (that RON cannot resist buying every time he goes to the grocery store. 😉 ). So, since the munchkins are so freaked out I let them each have ONE with a big glass of milk. Abby scarfs hers down (she has my sweet tooth) and comes back for “another one?” to which I respond “no.”
Well, that was apparently the last straw for her and she threw the BIGGEST, LOUDEST and most annoying 2-year old fit I have ever seen … especially from Abby. So, I put her in her room for a few minutes to calm down. She was crying and screaming to the point of gagging (I hate that!).
A few minutes later, she’s calm(er) and we go back downstairs so I can move the water for the lawn. Around this time, Joseph is hungry (it’s free choice dinner night since Daddy’s not home to cook). Joseph asked if he could make Bagel Bites. I said sure. He proceeds to make them in the microwave, but they turn out smooshy and he doesn’t want them … the girls and I, however, do eat them. 🙂
I decided to let him try again with the toaster oven. He gets out another batch of bagel bites and sets the toaster oven as directed and a few minutes later I hear “Mom, I see smoke.” I’m thinking, “hunh?”. I turned around and looked and didn’t’ see anything, so I told him to just keep an eye on it thinking it was just some crumbs burning up in the toaster oven (which is typical).
Well, apparently that’s NOT all that it was. A minute later Joseph says, “Mom, I see lots of smoke.” So I look again, don’t really see much smoke, but do see FLAMES! Geez! I unplugged it and pulled the hose from the sink and sprayed the sucker … which immediately dosed the flames. This was NOT an eletrical fire, but the food in the bottom of the pan had caught fire (was not just smoldering) and was quickly encompassing the entire toaster oven! Iny any case, that went out onto the deck (since it was hot) for immediate disposal!
That meant, however, that Joseph was now out of TWO sets of bagel bites. Poor kid. 🙁 He asked if he could make a ham and egg sandwich and that’s what he ended up having for dinner.
Then a bit later, we went outside to move the water and I put Emi & Abby in the grass so they could walk around and Emi just started crying and crying and crying and would not move! I guess they aren’t used to actual grass in the yard. 😉
Go figure. Ron leaves even for a couple of hours and the world falls apart. 🙂
