Father’s Day

Today is Father’s Day and Joseph is with his cousins and the girls are in the NICU still. Happy Father’s day to you, Ron! You are kidless for much of the day … not completely by choice, obviously.

We enjoyed a family lunch at Kanki, to honor Joseph’s upcoming 7th birthday, Ron’s Mom’s birthday (on the same day) and the Fathers … Dave, Doug & Ron. All 10 of us (note it’ll be a party of 14 next time, when the girls, Catherine and her significant other are there) sat around one hibachi grill and watched and ate the show. Mmmmm….

Off to the hospital for a visit at 2pm…

Emily did her Dad proud though and latched and nursed for a solid 20 minutes at the 2pm feeding! Yeah! This is a first. Her sister will have to catch up!

Grandma and Grandpa Bickers joined us and held both girls for a while, too.

This particular day included a big meeting at church, which we both attended. Since we were so close to the the hospital, we went for a “baby fix”. It’s really quite nice to go in the late evenings (8-9 or 10 pm timeframe) because the NICU is often quiet and calm. They dim the lights and when E & A are sleeping, it’s nice and comfy sitting in a rocking chair with one of them in your arms.

Because they are preemies, they sleep… a lot… I mean a lot, a lot. So, it’s quite wonderful to hold them and just veg. They sleep very peacefully, too. Often, one or the other, or both will open an eyelid to peek out as us, or they’ll smile in their sleep. What in the world are they thinking about?? 🙂
