Took us a while to make the trek into the fair. While we parked by Gate 9, we ended up going in at Gate 10. It was either walk all the way down and back for Gate 9 (our usual gate) or just walk up the hill to the other Gate. At the time, we didn’t know how long the walk was and it was probably a wash, but it was very interesting to walk through the homes-away-from-home.
Yup, the carnie’s campers were all lined up between gates 9 & 10. All hooked up and ready to live in. Maybe were really nice, but some looked about as old as dirt — as as dirty and run down. Some looked to be dormitories… 5 small doors that probably opened into a tiny room with a bed. Very interesting and a side of the fair most probably don’t see. We did have to explain to Joseph what they were there for. I think he figured the people at the fair were just people that worked there and went back home at the end of the day — which is true, just that home was outside the fair gates.
We made our way to the food and selected the Amran tent because 1) it was close 2) it was quick 3) we were starving 4) had a covered seating area and 5) had more than just hot dogs. But, guess what we ALL ate? Yup… hot dogs. LOL Joseph’s was just ketchup and mustard. Ron’s added cole slaw and mine was loaded with chili too. Mmmmmm…. The girls munched on fries.
We left the tent with time enough to go to the pic races.
Turns out there was more than just pigs racing! There were pigs, goats, more pigs, ducks and pot-belly pigs. Because Joseph and the girls were getting “fussy” we left after the 3rd race (2nd set of pigs) and were bummed to hear about the ducks, because those are the girls’ favorite animal! Oh well.
1st set of piggies…
Goats!
The last goat in… decided to walk after it realized it was the biggest loser. 😉
More piggies! Go piggies go!
