Ugh. 3 hours in the hospital (not bad but boring), 30 minutes for a script pick-up and a crappy dinner at Wendy’s and I’m home………
So Joseph played football when he wasn’t supposed to. The neighbor kids (boys age 11-14) play TACKLE (despite all the adult’s repeated request to play TAG) and in doing so, he fell while running (though he tell us he did NOT have the football, he was just running )…. and landed on his shoulder.
The Xray produced a miniscule bone fragment inside his shoulder ‘cavity’/area that they had to find out from WHERE it came.
The CT scan produced the best answer possible given the circumstance.
The tendons/ligaments between his clavicle and shoulder blade snapped (stretched too far) and took with it a piece of his collar bone. In that ‘one motion’ the bone fragment whipped it’s way through his shoulder cavity and the tendons/ligaments went back into place, but very ‘wobbly’.
Because the bone came from his clavicle and NOT his humorous(?), it’s nothing ‘serious’. Had it been from the other ‘end’ of the ligament, we’d have been looking at other issues.
Until they heal, they aren’t holding together completely so he’s in a sling for ‘x’ number of weeks, but has to see an Orthopedist on Monday.
Ron asked if that meant the ligaments broke away completely, and I don’t know exactly, but according to the doc, these things heal like a collar bone fracture: “simply” with immobilization.
He’s also got some good narcotics for bedtime to make sure he can sleep tonight, then tomorrow on Tylenol/Advil or more good drugs ‘as needed’.
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy.
Ankle sprain two months ago … now this.
Argh.
Boys.
