Well … Joseph took our advice and got himself suspended. Ok, in the middle of our advice and the suspension was his poor judgment, but it makes you wonder sometimes if our advice is really the greatest when put into the head of a 6th grader.
Back story.
A few weeks ago, during track out I think, Joseph mentioned that he often left his locker open because it was easier to grab his stuff out of than to have to unlock it between classes.
We explained why this was NOT a good idea … that people could steal his stuff (and he constantly asks to bring his iPod to school — uh …. no? Duh!)
Fast forward to today.
Joseph saw an open locker and taking our advice, decided to be a good samaritan and went to close it … though the owner of the locker saw him and decided to take action into his own hands … ad proceeded to pop Joseph upon the head, to which Joseph shoved him, kid shoved back, Joseph shoved again, kid shoved again, Joseph punched, kid kicked and then it broke up (I haven’t figured out how that happened).
Afterward Joseph took himself to the office for fighting. 🙄 But, he did explain the entire situation and the Vice Principal actually told me on the phone she was very proud of him … though he gets 2 days of in school suspension for his actions.
So the good samaritan gets in trouble. Go figure. 🙁
The good news … no one will call him a pushover. 🙂 He fought back instead of cowering or giving up. I’m actually proud of him … though I won’t say it in quite those words. Essentially, he didn’t get in trouble at home and he’s agreed …
he’s not going to help anyone else. If their stuff gets stolen, then oh well. They should have closed their locker like they are told to do.
