Allergy to tree nuts?

We came home … via a supremely short CHristmas visit … with a load of yummy cookies. This morning, Abby and Emi grabbed a couple for themselves and ate them up … scarfed them down really. 🙂

After Abby ate hers, her lip swelled up like a balloon!! I freaked out, worrying that it would be worse … but the swelling — bloating really, remained in her upper lip. I called my parents to find out what was in the cookie (the ONLY thing she’d eaten that morning).

There were the usual things … baking powder, flour, sugar and …. walnuts.

But my girls BOTH, chow down on peanut butter. We know Abby is super sensitive — eczema on her legs which is worst during the dry season, bandaids and stickers irritate her skin … but the nut thing is new.

I looked it up online and of course it said she should be tested to confirm and to ensure we know that’s what it is … as it can be worse a second time … or subsequent time. 🙁 I have an email in to our Pediatrician to ask.

Anyway, about 2 hours later, she had hives and a big fat lip.

Then 2 hours later, nothing at all.

It was REALLY funny looking and Abby kept saying “my lip is fat” and smiling her funny Abby smile. She was mentally/physically/emotionally FINE through it … just had a funny fat lip. 🙂

Guess we need to do some allergy testing. Given Emi is a twin, I’m going to have her tested too because I don’t want to risk it. Joseph and I made sure to eat the offending cookies, too. 😉
