Two locked doors, one missing kid

Today, while we were eating our Subway sandwiches, Emily decided she’d go into our part of our room — a separate room. Our room is separate from the main room by two doors that lock — rather forcefully. And there is a separate entry/exit door too (though we didn’t really use it).

In any case, we noticed it was a little “quiet” without Emily, so we decided to go find out what was going on … or rather I did. When I got to the separating doors, I realized ours was locked. I tapped and asked Emi to unlock it and she said she couldn’t.

I could barely hear her because the doors are solid!

Luckily, we’d left the window open so I walked outside, around to the window and peaked in. Emi was trying to open the inside door, but couldn’t get it unlocked. I told her what to do and she tried with her left hand, turning left — oops. So I said, try the other hand and turn the other way. No luck. It was stuck.

The lock itself was rather difficult to turn, even for an adult, so I could imagine Emi couldn’t get it … though she did lock it. Hmmmm…..

So I asked her if the chain on the door was off and she said ‘yes’, so I asked her to unlock the front door and I’d go in and unlock the separating doors. We worked on getting the “little knob inside the doorknob” to turn and when it finally did, the chain WASN’T off. Oops. So Emi was STILL stuck in the room and, I believe, getting a little worried.

By this time, we had an audience — in Ron, Abby & Joseph.

So, Ron decided to get Emi to move the chair over and unhook the chain. Through the scren of the window, he explained to her to move the chair, move the clothes, move the suitcase and move all the stuff in the way in order to drag the chair over to the door. Then, get on the chair, climb up and unhook the chain.

She did it and she was free! None too soon as Ron noted she seemed to be getting a little more and more worried.

He was surprised (as was I when I thought about it later) that Emi was able to unhook the chain without any direction! That seemed to be the easisest part! 🙂

So Em was free and we gave her big high 5s and hugs and she was all smiley like she normally is. 🙂
