Being in MI brought back a flood of memories …. my old house … and the barns that are no longer there. I remember the Sutton’s house — the house next to my old house and how ornate I remember it being … and how now it just doesn’t look that “big” … the eyes of a 10 year old vs. the eyes of a 30 ish year old. 🙂
The old bridge that was once steel and rusting but full of character, is now simply two concrete barriers on either side of the road … riddled with graffiti.
The Vrable’s house … so different and yet so much the same. In two days the girls (and Joseph) created about as many memories as I have of my own childhood there.
Naples pizzeria … as I remember it, yellow, lively and with the music boxes on each table … to be played with just a quarter. Now, pink, blue and well … old.
The dime store … still there. The IGA, now Riverside Market. The pharmacy now a hardware store. Wendy’s on the other side of the street and other side of the bridge. Gracies … though we didn’t stop to eat there, the sign was there and I remember it well … though it’s interior has likely changed as well.
Odd things that I remember from my 10 years there … that are all brought back as we drove through and around and then out. But it was all from a 10 year old’s perspective … which is very, very, very different from a 30-ish-year-old perspective. 😉
