Originally, our Wednesday was going to be spent at the Coal Mine Museum in Beckley, VA. But, we found out, just days before our trip, that it is closed for the 2007 season! 🙁 So, we altered our plans and decided to park it in Columbus for the night. In the meantime, we made a lunch stop at Tamarak …. just outside Beckley.
Tamarak is a HUGE arts and crafts store. It’s apparently a conference center too, and is home to hundreds of local artisans.
Since we have the rule about not eating at restaurants we have locally, we chose to eat at Tamarak. We all enjoyed our food immensely. I had a Rueben with a chicken breast (odd, but good!). Ron had what was basically a Philly Steak and Cheese. Joseph had pizza … which lead us to a new rule … “You can’t eat the same thing twice”. Emily chose spaghetti and meatballs and Abby chose peanut butter and jelly.
I think this is the first time they’ve actually delibrately chosen something different! And they both pigged out! 🙂
After our lunch, we walked around Tamarak a bit to stretch our legs and went out to the playground which had just been mulched. Needless to say, mulch and sandals do NOT go well together. 😉 After cleaning off the now dirty feet, we walked all the way back around and got in the van for the remainder of our drive to Columbus.
