TJA: A NILMDTS start to the year….

I guess it’s true that nothing is ever perfect and for this family it certainly wasn’t. Their 24 weeker lasted 2 weeks, from December 16th to January 1st but just couldn’t keep going. I was called by Duke to complete the photography for this teeny tiny little girl … who’s family moved from Honduras to the U.S., speak *very* little English and were just trying to make it here.

The family was not there while I did the photography, so I worked with the two nurses at Duke. December was a “slow” Duke month … no calls, so I’d had a break. As I had the sneak peek going, I couldn’t even go until 4pm, but go I did, because once again, no other photographers were available. I really don’t mind. I feel grateful that I can give back something to these families, but it stinks that none of the other 5 photographers is ever available! Ugh! I guess the 80/20 rule is 90/10 in this case.

Oddly, I wasn’t amazingly emotional during this one. I think it’s because she was already gone and the family wasn’t there so the photography was kind of “rote” if that makes sense. It’s ok though, I still created some wonderful photos. I only worry now that the family won’t have the resources to play the DVD or get the images form the CD. I’m going to talk with my lab and see if they’d donate their services for 4×6 prints (since that is the cheapest size they do) for these kinds of sessions. We’ll see. Maybe I’ll just print them out on my new color printer! ๐Ÿ™‚ That might work too.

Anyway, it was an odd start to the year, but again, something I’m passionate about… I guess photography in general is what I’m passionate about. This is just one more facet that turns my talent to something beyond financial gain.
