Nearly 8 weeks ago, a friend of mine gave birth to a set of twins … at 25 weeks gestation. 10 years ago, these guys had very little chance of survival. 5 years ago, more of a chance but still on edge. Today, they are fighting and being given the best possible care ever and, in my personal opinion, are doing VERY well. Considering all the possibilities, these two have shown that they will overcome and not to let anything get in their way. There is no way to know why they were born so early, but now it doesn’t really matter. What matters is celebrating their lives and celebrating in the small steps toward full recovery, growth and getting OUT of the hospital.
So today, I went for a visit. The last time I saw these two, they were 1 day old, barly 2lbs each and quite the “alien baby”. Since I had “alien babies” myself I can use that term. 😉 Today, they are *nearing* 4lbs each which is getting closer to Emi’s birth weight! When they can get rid of the CPAP masks and vents, we’ll REALLY get a look at them, but for the moment, a bit more assistance is needed, but that’s ok!
Miss Julia was sporting purple and Master Ronan was sporting blue for their first ever professional photographs. 🙂 I have to say, outside of my own kids, they were the cutest little beings! Master Ronan has some chubby cheeks. Miss Julia is probably going to be long and thin. No matter what, it was OBVIOUS they are well loved as both Mommy and Daddy were there as well as Grandma.
Now it’s just a matter of time before they grow, heal and are released into the big, wide world!
