Our neighbor called me tonight to tell me that her son, her son’s friend and Joseph were engaging in an “inappropriate” conversation in her front yard. And, she figured, she, as a parent would want to know, therefore I would too.
Joseph was so upset by this that he couldn’t talk — was in tears. Anyway… Ron and I had a good laugh about it all.
First, I don’t think it’s all that inappropriate — especially for boys. Secondly, I think the mom is more embarrased about her own situation given the nature of the conversation. Third, it sounded to me like she needed to vent a bit — which I let her do.
So, the conversation was about seeing “naked ladies” online. Apparently, her son and her son’s friend both have computers in their rooms. Naughty! naughty! Joseph, to our knowledge, has never seen naked ladies online, because, literally, he has no access to them, except at others’ houses.
So, when this mom heard the conversation, she let-in to her son and her son’s friend and to me about Joseph. I let her have her say, but knew that Joseph had done no wrong… except to have a boy-based conversation in public. 😉
I’m sorry, but curiosity is going to be there. We made sure Joseph knew he wasn’t in trouble but that he was never going to get a computer in his room, for this exact reason. 🙂 🙂
Now, of course the mom had to say more… she said she’s heard Joseph call her daughter weirdo and her son an idiot. I let her have her say in this too… knowing I’d heard full well what her son has said about Joseph — through Joseph. We have reminded Joseph that name calling is inappropriate in any circumstance.
I let this mom know that I couldn’t guarantee ANYTHING would change and I’m sure she felt like I was blowing her off, but oh well!!! I sorta was! Sheesh!
