18 month checkup!

Ron & I took the girls for their 18 month checkup today. The Dr. confirmed my suspicion that the 50 words by 16 months old thing I’d read was an error. She said that if that were the case, they’d have a ton of toddlers failing the test. As a matter of fact, the 18 month check-off sheet asked if they could say 5-6 words other than mama and dada. So far, I’ve counted 50 (and it’s growing every day!).

New words are:
pitsa = pizza
peekboo = peekaboo (and comes with the hand motions)
bath
box
Jsft = Joseph
hot (Abby has this one down!)

So, the Dr. checked them both all out and here are their “stats”:
Emily – 20lbs 11oz which is the 10th percentile for weight; 31 and 3/4 ” inches long which is the 50th percentile for height (long and skinny!); and 45cm head circumference which is the 10th percentile.

Abby – 21lbs 7oz which is teh 24th percentile for weight; 32 and 1/4 inches long which is he 60th percentile for height (extra long and skinny!); and 45 cm head circumference which is the 10th percentile.

So, their heads measure the same! Abby is still a bit bigger overall — by 1/2 inch and 12 oz … but given Emi started out 1 lb and 2 full inches less, she’s pretty much caught up!

One funny thing… one of the milestones is whether they can kick a ball. I said “Well… they kick the cat” and the Dr. said “well that counts!” 🙂

So they are 100% on par with other typical 18 month olds, despite being 5 weeks early and despite being twins (some believe twins develop slower; some believe otherwise).

They both got their flu shots (and I have to take Joseph tonight for his) and we treated them to Chik-fila-A for lunch to make up for it. 😉 Otherwise, no more shots until kindergarten (except for flu each year) and the next checkup not until they are 2!

One other cute note… when waiting in the waiting room, I spotted another set of twins. Ron didn’t think they were twins, but I could tell. They were with their Dad. Before the Dr. left, Ron asked if that was a set of twins and the Dr. said yes and she was actually going to mention it because 1) they have an older brother about 8, 2) they are 2.5 yrs old and 3) Dad is a stay-at-home-dad!! She thought the coincidences were very cool! I agree!
