Ron took Joseph to his very first basketball practice tonight. I’m told that it went well! This is good because we were a bit worried.
Joseph, of course, didn’t want to go at first, but did get into it once there. He apparently got at least one basket too! They did a bunch of drills and stuff and are really learning how to play. The coach is really teaching the kids and wants them to learn how to play, not just to run up and down the court and shoot or pass.
Joseph did have a couple “issues” and complaints which we know as excuses. His knee hurt, then his throat, then he didn’t hear/understand what to do once and just threw a small fit. But the coach must have some good sense about the kids and reassured him and he tried again. This is a MAJOR step for Joseph… especially on a first time!
Ron did say that he was worried the coach was going to be a bit too “gotta win” but over the course of the first practice learned that it’s a good “gotta win” style that is motivating and not over the top so hopefully that’ll remain.
Yeah!
