in this case the “what goes around comes around” theory is really cool! 10 year ago, Ron met and started working for Amnon. Then, he split off and partnered with Julia, then split off and started working for himself and contracting back to Amnon. Obviously, during that time, he’s met and worked with a BUNCH of people due to these two… including Amnon’s brother, his employees, etc. etc.
At the same time, Ron is always “learning” the latest and greatest open source programming language. One Christmas I bet him he couldn’t read the Perl book and learn it and write a program in it upon our return from Chicago. Needless to say… I lost. 🙂 Well since then he’s learned PHP, Python, Zope and countless other programming languages that I’ve certainly never discouraged, but in the back of my mind I was thinking “when is he every *really* going to get to use these?”
Apparently, he will be now… not that he hasn’t been on a smaller scale… he uses them for my website, others’ sites and the “big” project he did nearly 2 years ago that is starting to really gain momentum in the last few months.
Back to the “cycle”… a guy that worked with Amnon’s brother when Ron worked for Amnon in 1998(!) suggested Ron for this job that this guy (today in 2005) needs a Python and Zope programmer to complete a product and more fully build it out. On Saturday, he interviewed him officially (Ron rode his motorcycle!!) and basically the only part to work out was $$. There was almost NO question he’d get the job… actually … apparently, based on this recommendation, he was hired sight-unseen but they were to meet anyway.
Today… the “deal” was closed so to speak. And, 10 years after he met and worked with this one guy… that worked for the brother of the guy Ron worked for… he is working for another guy… on a project using a programming language that 99% of the world population has never heard of.
Go figure. It’s awesome!! 🙂
