And you are probably sitting there thinking… “she’s happy about this? What a nutcase!” You’re right on both accounts!
Today, we had the official meeting with the school principal, psychologist, his teacher and the reading resource teacher. Based on all the tests, evaluations, worries, thoughts, interpretations, scores, etc. Joseph OFFICIALLY qualifies for federally funded education support beyond just a classroom teacher!
He is going to get 75 minutes of reading/writing help 4 (yes four!) days a week! He is being tested for the academically gifted program for Math, but suffers so much in reading and writing. This FINALLY gives us answers, solutions and something to look forward to! I am just so happy!
The “label” means the federal gov’t will pony up $$ for the school and Joseph will get the help he needs to be successful! His IEP (Individualized Education Plan) is all in place… he gets longer time to do tests… more help on End-of-Grade tests, like if he can’t read the problem in math, they’ll read it for him… but not in reading… he has to read it there. He gets to write the answers in the test booklet, not on those horrible stupid bubble sheets… stuff that will ease his anxiety!
These things will add up to success! I just know it! It took MONTHS to get all this in place, but it so worth it!
Oh what a stress relief!!!!!! And now we can praise Joseph for all his hard work and know that he’s getting every possible opportunity to be successful!
And that, my friends, is why I am so happy about this!
