Band-aid phobia?

I think Abby has a band-aid phobia. On Saturday, I cut myself and put a band-aid on. Since it was on my leg, the band-aid was completely obvious and visible.

I went downstairs to get the girls ready to go and Abby starts crying out of nowhere. I couldn’t figure it out. So, I looked around on her, nothing obvious. Then, she starts pointing at my band-aid. I said “mommy got a boo-boo” and she starts crying even harder and pointing at the band-aid more.

I said “Abby, it’s ok. That makes mommy’s boo-boo feel better.” She looked at me like I was crazy, pointed and cried again. So I took it off, folded it up, she took it and threw it away and stopped crying completely.

Well, today, she fell at some point and her knee was bleeding, so Ron cleaned her up and put on a band-aid and she reacted the same way! He said she managed to get the first one completely off, but since it was still bleeding, he forced another on her that was stickier and she couldn’t get it off until bathtime.

She did not like it one bit. You gotta wonder if she associates band-aids with pain, because after their shots last Tuesday, she kept pointing to her band-aids and crying. I thought she was doing that because it hurt (and it probably did) but now, she associates pain with band-aids and it’s supposed to be exactly the opposite! Band-aids are supposed to have the “it feels better” effect. 😉
