Joseph and the Bionicle

Joseph has a goal for the end of the week. One solid good week at school… using or not using his passes to get away from the class for 5 minutes… and he gets a Bionicle.

A Bionicle is a toy, made by Lego, that is a combination robot, spider. I guess this is his next thing, beyond BeyBlade.

This morning, we had 10 minutes to kill before heading to the bus and he wanted to look them up. So, he sat at the computer and asked me to spell Bionicle for him. I, of course, told him to spell it himself.

I heard “B i k” and of course I stopped him. I read a book recently about teaching a kid to spell, so I told him to spell by the syllables.

I heard “B-i [pause] o-n [pause] i [pause] c e l” pretty darn good considering ‘el’ and ‘le’ have the same sound. 🙂 If he would do that each time, he’d do great, but he’s too concerned about finishing fast and not finishing with a high level of quality.
