Joseph and I butt heads when I try to teach him stuff. He lasted about 15 minutes, but then the 2nd 15 minutes were draining. I told him we would only work on it 1/2 an hour 4 times per week.
It’s a neat “program” geared to the spelling errors the specific child makes. You start by going through all the rules (y changes to i before adding an ending for example) and stick to the most basic conventions, phonics and errors and correct through writing sentences.
And, all spelling is done through syllables. Joseph got mad while we were spelling ‘homework’ because he wasn’t listening. He was distracted and not concentrating. I should have stopped, but then it would have been like giving in and I’m too stubborn for that. 😉
So, little by little, this program teaches the rules and lets the kids figure out how to spell through practice, the rules and proofreading. We’re just in the rules phase at this point.
