We have these frozen, soft pretzels that we all like. It takes 30 seconds to cook them in the microwave and 3-4 in the toaster over. Not one to go the long route, Joseph was ready to pop one in the microwave. He’s done this before, so I didn’t think anything of it. That is until I smelled the smoke and saw it pouring out of the microwave.
What happened is partly my fault. Joseph asked me how long to cook it and I was working on something, so only 1/2 paying attention. I asked him to read the directions… and he did. He read “3-4 minutes”. Not thinking he was about to put it into the microwave (even though I knew that), I said, “well then cook it for 3 minutes.” And he did.
At about the 2 minute mark, I started smelling something and wondered why in the world it would be burning… it’s only a pretzel. So, I looked over and there is smoke pouring out of the microwave… literally pouring as if it was on fire.
Of course, microwaves are lit and inside the pretzel was charring as it is were on fire. Didn’t cause any harm… except for the nasty burned smell you get when something is overcooked. 😉 That, of course, is still lingering in the house.
The error that cause this? Joseph read the toaster over directions and put it in the microwave. If I’d been paying attention, I would have recognized that 3 minutes was awefully long for a frozen pretzel in a microwave. Ah, oh well… live and learn. 🙂
