Starting today, I am cycling my milk freezer stash. There is stuff I’ve now had frozen for 3+ months, which means it either has to be used or has to be dumped. According to La Leche League and other breastfeeding support information, milk may remain frozen in a refridgerator’s freezer for 3-4 months.
Due to opening and closing the door often, it is expected that there will be some thawing. If you have a chest freezer, it can be stored up to a year! Wow!
So, rather than dump tons of milk, I am thawing the “old” stuff and using it for bottles and replacing with new stuff. I won’t do this for every bottle, but just to get the oldest stuff out and have a stash for the next three months.
I remember when Joseph turned 1… I dumped a lot of milk! I have a ton more than even then and can’t bear to see it all get dumped! 🙂
