It was such a beautiful day today that we couldn’t resist spending time outside. Joseph was having friend withdrawal, having just spent the 4 days away from them, so out he went with this friends.
While Ron and I were outside washing the van, he came running up the hill all excited telling us that he rode another kids’ bike! It did NOT have training wheels and he forgot his helmet so he wanted to get both his helmet and his new bike.
Now, you have to remember that Joseph got this new bike this summer and tried a couple of times to ride it with no success. The kid can balance on his two-wheeled scooter and go zooming down the hill on our road with no problems, but the bike was another story.
For some reason, he tried with this other bike, figured it out and tada! he’s a bike rider!
So, off he went with his bike (and helmet) and upon his return told us that he could do it and was dying to ride more (except that it was already pitch dark and very cold out!)
I guess our next step will be a unit study on bike safety (and maybe the history of the bike, too!). I’m going to get some video of him this weekend.
This is/was a momentus occasion. What’s more amazing (in my opinion) is that he tried this in front of other kids, without us… something we never would have expected out of him! He hates to screw up and if he had, I can’t imagine his response, but he didn’t, so hopefully it’s a major self-confidence booster!
