Thanksgiving prep day

We’re heading to Winston-Salem today for Thanksgiving weekend with the family. They entire family is expected, including Ron’s side and mine … with the exception of my sister who will be dining with Shawn’s Mom.

In preparation, I had lots of stuff to attend to and let the girls play on the floor, in their exesaucers, etc. throughout the morning and early afternoon. I guess I left Emily on the floor a bit longer than planned. 🙂

We got on the road about 3:45 (later than I’d planned, but not too bad). My goal was to avoid the 3 bad things about Thanksgiving travel… 1 – travel on Wednesday or Sunday, 2 – travel during rush hour and 3 – travel with hungry/cranky babies.

Turns out, we managed to hit 5 of the worst possible travel scenarios on our way…

1 – on Wednesday (originally we’d planned to go on Thursday morning, but decided it would be best for the girls (and us) if we went on Wednesday).
2 – during rush hour on a major freeway, through three major cities (Durham, Burlington and Greensboro)
3 – at night (it was dark by 5:30pm!)
4 – through a wreck (there were several)
5 – in the rain!

Yup! We experienced it all and the girls slept through it completely. Joseph watched Inspector Gadget and in the end, we arrived safe and sound just before 6pm, so it wasn’t even too long of a trip.

Here we are, at Grandma and Grandpa’s!
