Joseph has a new TaeKwonDo uniform that is all black. It’s a “winter” uniform of a long sleeve t-shirt and black pants. It’s a nice combo, with the school logo and information on it.
Tonight, as he dressed, he said “God doesn’t like it when you wear all black.” To which, we responded, it’s ok and asked why he thought that. He said, “God likes it when you wear all white.”
Now, we’ve been going to a new church for about 4 months now and Joseph goes to the kids program, so I’m immediately jumping to the conclusion that they are saying things like this there. So, we delved a bit further.
Us: “Where did you hear that?”
Joseph: “At church, you know, when that guy was using the black cloth and the white one with the black dot.”
Then, Ron remembers that Lindsey Garmon did a presentation once at Brooks Ave (our former church) about a year ago. These were during the days when Joseph attending the church service with us, in the upper balconey and I was pregnant. Joseph laid on the church pew during most of these church services and we didn’t really figure he was listening.
In any case, he was! Because he was describing this sermon, where Lindsey used a black cloth as the sin example, a white cloth with a black dot to represent us, and a pure white cloth to represent Jesus.
Then, tonight, while watching Everybody Loves Raymond reruns, I asked Ron if he’d seen this particular episode before, because I didn’t think I had and Joseph went on to explain the end during the commercial.
And yet, he can’t remember that “what” is spelled with a ‘wh’.
Hmmm???
