Mmmmm…. squash…. ick!

The girls have now officially tried “real” food! This was our first foray into baby food. While Ron and I intend on making our own, I had a TON of coupons from Gerber, so I used them to stock up on some “first” foods… squash, sweet potatos, green beans, pears, applesauce and bananas.

So, for this first endeavor, we started with sqaush. I had their oatmeal at the ready in case it didn’t work and they got super fussy.

I offered it to each of them at the same time to see their expressions. Emily looked over at Abby as if to say “What do you think?” Then, they ate… and ate… and ate. Went on for a solid 5 minutes and then all of the sudden, they started responding like, “wait a minute… what is this icky stuff!?”

Literally, they started to do the icky face that I would have expected right from the beginning. Abby kept eating hers, but Emily wanted nothing more to do with it. I kept feeding it to Abby to see when she’d stop and sure enough, shortly after Emily, she too clamped down. 🙂

So, I switched them to their Oatmeal and they ate it all! All in all, they probably downed 1oz of squash and 2oz of oatmeal! For allergy check purposes, we’ll do squash again (for a total of 4-5 days) and then move to the next one … sweet potatos! Fruits will be after the green beans and then I’ll start mixing those with the oatmeal.

Those will be all the foods they try until they are at least 6 months old.

Here they are… after their taste test!

Both of us!
