20 years ago today, on election day in 1984, my family turned their yellow, rented, Ryder, moving truck into the driveway of our house in Rural Hall. It included all our stuff from Michigan and towed my Mom’s orange stick-shift. 2-door, hatchback Mustang with my cats Pumkin and Kimsa (I think) within it. That car did not last long with all the NC hills.
Following it was our big blue van filled with our family and dogs (Goldie and Teddy). The horses came via a friend of the family a few days later.
This was the first time I’d seen this house. My father had been getting it ready for us for a bit. My room was blue and it had a new waterbed in it! And, I had a blue satin musical note and a satin keyboard hanging from the ceiling.
No pool yet though!
I hated NC for a long time, for various reasons … actually pretty much until August 26, 1988. 😉 But, I don’t think it showed regularly. My sister vowed to go back to MI on a regular basis — even for college, but of course, she got rooted to NC, too.
So, here’s a question to ponder. As a Yankee transplant to NC, if I had married another Yankee transplant, but had kids in NC, would our kids be Yankees or Rebels? 🙂 In my case they are a mix (Ron is pure NC – born and bred). The combo is is probably why our kids are so mixed up! 😉
