Hmmm… maybe it’s because they are getting older. I don’t really know, but for the last several nights, tandem feeding them at night has not worked. I can generally get them both to nurse and then to bed without much hassle, but lately, they nurse for 5 minutes (which is not enough), then delatch and then cry, fidget and generally act fussy.
Tonight, they started the same fussy pattern (the last two nights, Ron has had to come “rescue” me) and so instead, I put Emily on the pillow next to me and laid down with Abby. Abby then proceeded to relax and nurse herself to sleep.
I put her in their bed and did the same with Emily. She conked out too.
I think the problem is that they aren’t relaxing as much. Then, they see what other stuff is going on (despite there not being anything going on — it’s always dark and quiet upstairs when we get to this point) or hear stuff and become “distracto babies”. Joseph is like this — easily distracted — and I think the girls (in particular, Abby) has that same trait.
I hope this is just a phase as I like tandem nursing them, but it’s just not working much these days (couch or bed is the same) and it’s a bummer. Not that they aren’t nursing less… just separately! Means more of my time doing nothing but sitting with them. 🙂
Guess we’ll see…
