The girls are really maturing! I “dined” with them at 11am and 2pm today and each nursed for a considerable length of time. We are still having significant milk production issues though and I’m not quite sure how that will be resolved.
Abby (currently the reigning miss piggy) nursed *AND* chugged a 50cc bottle! That bottle also included 1 teaspoon of rice cereal. The Neo Dr. has added this to their bottles to prevent them from chugging them down and causing a bradycardia episode. So far, it is working! They are slowly but surely remembering to suck, swallow and breathe!
Given that, and since in the last 48 hours neither has had an episode, we are *hopeful* that we may be able to room-in at the hospital on Monday, which means a home-coming on Tuesday!
Of course, this is all dependent upon them. But, Dr. Issacs (the other Neo Dr. at the hospital) said today that she’s seen real progress in both girls and expects it to continue.
So, knock-on wood, salt-over-the-shoulder, prayers to God that it remains that way. We’re on day 14 of our stay in the NICU and while we love Bonnie (their favorite of all the nurses) and we know they are cared for very well, we want them at home!
